Norma's Knitting

From time to time I will be adding pictures of Norma's latest projects.

The inaugural picture is of Karina's purse. The post office indicated that the package arrived today, so I can now post it.

Dragonfly Responds

Sure, you guys think its easy don't you.

You think I just have to hang there all day.....

Always be available for the kid to pull on me, suck on me, gum me.

Do you really think it matters to me if its the kid or the dog?

Now, even I have to admit, that Herbie's ingesting me was a bit extreme,.... but I got even with him. Ha ha.

and the thanks I get...... the kitchen garbage can.
Somedays life sucks!

PS. I knew about the coke.

For Karina

Hi Karina: I wanted to let you know that your Mom sent us your itinerary for your summer trip to see us! We are so excited.

So we had to visit Smithville, to let all your friends know that you are coming this summer.

The train was excited that you are coming again to visit!

Of course the Carosel was excited !

Especially the bunny and the horsey!

I found the roosters and told them, (but only one of them appeared to be interested!)

When we got home from Smithville, I got the mail. I received a small package from the office I used to work at. There was a thank you note from lots of the patients I used to work with. And there was also a small package from one of the women, who I guess thought I'd helped her out a bit. She indicated how well she was doing and then included a present. Two handmade aprons. One for Gramps and one for Karina.

Maybe when you visit you can wear your new apron and help Gramps cook. Maybe wel'll make a chocolate cheesecake, like the one I made for dessert this evening.

In any event, I wanted you to know that Nana and I are looking forward to seeing you this summer.

Iowa State University

News Flash - It is reported that the Provost of Iowa State University was greatly relieved to be able to report to the Board of Trustees, that Nancy Farstad (yes our Nancy) had accepted his offer of a full grant, assistantship and scholarship to their doctoral program in Early Childhood Development. He was concerned that she might accept competing offers.

Way to go Nancy!! How great is that!!
Check it out.

Also, Brian had a review course to attend in King of Prussia, just outside of Philadelphia this weekend. (Fri through Sun- from 7AM to 6PM). It’s a review course for the anesthesia boards, sorta like a bar review course for nurse anesthesiologists! So he arrived exhausted about 8PM Thursday and left at 5AM Friday morning. Talk about a quick trip. He will stay over again Sunday night before heading back. He was too tired for any pictures Thursday but promised I could get some on Sunday.

Here's a tip. Need a meal you can keep warm because arrival times are uncertain? Here is a winner.

Creamy Spinach-Shrimp linguine

Amy will tell you that this is a great meal, and I think Brian is now a fan (although his late arrival required a warm-up). In any event, it is a quick and easy gourmet meal.

8 oz. linguine
8-9 oz. baby spinach
3 tablespoon butter
12 oz. shelled, de-veined uncooked shrimp.
2 garlic cloves
¾ cup heavy cream
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
¾ cup grated parmesan cheese

1. Cook linguine according to package directions. Just before linguine is finished cooking, stir in spinach. Drain and set aside.

2. Melt butter in same pot over low heat. Stir in shrimp and garlic, increase heat to medium-high. Stir in cream, salt and pepper, bring to a boil. Boil until shrimp turns pink. Add the linguine, spinach and parmesan cheese. Toss well. Enjoy. It is equally as delicious the second day, (especially if you saved a little cream to mix in to heat it up)!!

Diet implication – you need to take a second walk.

News

The good news of the day is that Norma resigned her position at Erwin Pearl last night!! I have been encouraging her to do so, and she finally had enough!

We think that we can do just fine with Soc. Sec. and her teaching position. Anyway that's going to be the current experiment. We'll let you know how it goes.

More later....

Points to Ponder

Part of my AA routine, in addition to regular meeting attendance, is spending a few minutes every morning reading some recovery related materials.

This was part if today's.

I thought I'd pass it on.

I Wish I Were:

I wish I were big enough to honestly admit all my shortcomings.
Brilliant enough to accepts praise without it making me arrogant.
Tall enough to tower over dishonesty.
Strong enough to welcome criticism.
Compassionate enough to understand human frailties.
Wise enough to recognize mistakes.
Humble enough to appreciate greatness.
Brave enough to stand by my friends.
Human enough to be thoughtful of my neighbor.
And spiritual enough to be devoted to the love of God.
